About the Book
The 2nd edition of Pharmacognosy (Part I) deals with the multidisciplinary characters of drugs, such as, its origin, morphology and microscopy to determine quality of drug, its chemical composition and therapeutic effects. Pharmacognosy also develops methods of control to identify the plant products and to understand about the side effects and interaction of drugs.
This edition is redesigned into eight chapters. Each chapter is written with the aim to give a reasonable background to academician and researchers in the respective topic. Chapters have been committed to provide information about its history, scope and development of pharmacognosy, source of drug, classification of crude drugs, morphology and histology, cultivation, collection, processing and storage of crude drugs, quality control of crude drugs, active constituents of drugs and its classification and properties, and pharmacognostic study of carbohydrates and lipids containing drugs. The objective of the authors is fully achieved by systemic gathering of the well written chapters with neat and clean well labelled diagrams wherever necessary.
Our objective is to provide easy and detailed guidelines to students of pharmacy of first and second semester of various universities throughout India. This part can be a solution for both degree and diploma students of various universities at different stages of their course and provide detailed information. The remaining topics have been covered in another part of books.
About the Authors
Rumit M. Shah, M.Pharm (Herbal Drug Technology, Pharmacognosy) and pursuing Ph.D, is working as an Assistant professor in Vidyabharti Trust College of Pharmacy, Umrakh, Bardoli, Gujarat. He serves this job since last two and half years; previously he was working in the Pharmaceutical industries in quality assurance department. So he has good experience in both Academics and Industries. He has published various research papers in reputed journals and attended more than 10 conferences, both nationally and internationally. His area of interest is Research in herbal drugs.
Rupesh T. Nayak, M.Pharm (Pharmacognosy), is working as an Assistant professor in Vidyabharti Trust College of Pharmacy, Umrakh, Bardoli, Gujarat. He serves this job since last two and half years; previously he was working in the Pharmaceutical industries in marketing department. So he has good experience in both Academics and pharmaceutical marketing. He has also presented good number of research papers in national and international level of conferences.
